With a mission to end family homelessness by restoring hope and rebuilding lives, UMOM offers shelter, supportive services, and housing programs to families and individuals in Maricopa County. Job Requirements
- Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays with a flexible schedule
- Must stand, move, bend, stoop, lift, and reach throughout the workday
- Must work in kitchen conditions involving heat, cold, humidity, wetness, smoke, and noise
- Current Maricopa Food Handler’s card or ability to obtain one
- Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain one
- Ability to clear Central Registry Screening from Department of Child Safety & Adult Protective Services
- Pass all required background checks and drug screenings including pre-employment and random testing
- Willingness to comply with safety-sensitive position requirements
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum two years’ kitchen prep and cooking experience in fast-paced food service
- Experience with inventory process and procedures preferred
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and food handling practices
- Ability to lead kitchen tasks and manage time effectively
- Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and culinary techniques
Job Duties
- Performs culinary skills including roasting, sauteing, sauce production, batch cooking, gourmet salads, and common side dishes
- Leads kitchen tasks including ingredient preparation, labeling, proper food storage, and countertop cleaning
- Stocks and maintains food product levels at all stations to ensure smooth service
- Ensures food safety compliance through proper storage, rotation, and disposal
- Demonstrates working knowledge of kitchen equipment and menu modification
- Maintains food quality, portion control, recipe consistency, and timely meal delivery
- Keeps kitchen organized and compliant with safety and sanitation standards
- Assists with back-of-house training in the Homegrown student program
- Operates efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen while ensuring sanitation
- Communicates with kitchen staff for continuous feedback
- Assists with inventory management and expense control
- Represents UMOM to trainees, community, and partners
- Takes full responsibility for food quality
- Attends employee meetings and suggests improvements
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership
