We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Health Center Cook to join our Culinary Services Department. This full-time position plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of our health center kitchen, where the preparation, production, and presentation of food for residents is handled with the highest standards of quality and health safety. The cook will be responsible for managing food preparation across all kitchen stations efficiently and consistently adhering to established recipes and dietary guidelines, including special diet orders and medical restrictions. This role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented approach to maintaining food quality and kitchen sanitation standards. The Health Center Cook will prepare soups, stocks, sauces, and a variety of cooking styles such as sautéing, frying, grilling, steaming, and baking. Additionally, they will assist with coordinating food production schedules to align with meal serving times to ensure fresh, well-presented meals are delivered to residents on time. This position offers a flexible schedule with multiple shift options to accommodate operational needs, hourly pay ranging from $19 to $22, and a $1,500 sign-on bonus. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum three years cooking experience, preferably in healthcare or senior living environment
  • ability to work flexible shifts including early mornings, evenings, and every other weekend
  • must have physical ability to perform cooking responsibilities such as standing for long periods and lifting
  • must follow sanitation and safety guidelines strictly
  • ability to understand and comply with special dietary requirements and food allergies
  • excellent communication skills
  • drug-free workplace compliance
  • eligibility to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • SERVSafe certification preferred
  • experience in hospital or senior living preferred
  • knowledge and experience with mechanical diets, food restrictions, allergies, etc
  • ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions
  • a minimum of three years experience as a cook in a hospital or nursing home/health center preferred, or hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution
  • ability to plan and organize work, interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
  • knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
  • some knowledge of nutrition and diet
  • must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English

Job Duties

  • Ability to work all stations in the kitchen
  • efficiently runs assigned station during the shift, follow all specs, and stock food as needed
  • maintains the quality of food and plate presentation
  • prepares all soups, stocks, sauces
  • boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes
  • prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes
  • prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders
  • plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours to ensure excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved
  • determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and ensures supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production
  • ensures all sanitation and health department guidelines are met by maintaining cleanliness of station and assigned kitchen areas
