Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- minimum three years cooking experience, preferably in healthcare or senior living environment
- ability to work flexible shifts including early mornings, evenings, and every other weekend
- must have physical ability to perform cooking responsibilities such as standing for long periods and lifting
- must follow sanitation and safety guidelines strictly
- ability to understand and comply with special dietary requirements and food allergies
- excellent communication skills
- drug-free workplace compliance
- eligibility to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- SERVSafe certification preferred
- experience in hospital or senior living preferred
- knowledge and experience with mechanical diets, food restrictions, allergies, etc
- ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions
- a minimum of three years experience as a cook in a hospital or nursing home/health center preferred, or hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution
- ability to plan and organize work, interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
- knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
- some knowledge of nutrition and diet
- must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English
Job Duties
- Ability to work all stations in the kitchen
- efficiently runs assigned station during the shift, follow all specs, and stock food as needed
- maintains the quality of food and plate presentation
- prepares all soups, stocks, sauces
- boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes
- prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes
- prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders
- plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours to ensure excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved
- determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and ensures supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production
- ensures all sanitation and health department guidelines are met by maintaining cleanliness of station and assigned kitchen areas
