The Health Center Cook position at The Cypress of Charlotte is a full-time role within the Culinary Services Department, dedicated to supporting the nutritional and dietary needs of residents within the health center. This hospitality-focused role requires the cook to be highly versatile and skilled in managing all kitchen stations to ensure quality food preparation and exceptional presentation. The cook will be responsible for executing production cooking tasks that include preparing soups, stocks, sauces, as well as sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed, and baked items. Attention to detail is paramount, as this role involves adhering to standardized recipes and special diet orders that accommodate medical, mechanical diets, and allergy considerations.
Working flexible shifts that may include early mornings, midday, and evenings with schedules that might vary from 5:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Health Center Cook plays a critical role in maintaining food quality, safety, and sanitation standards consistent with health department regulations. The role offers competitive hourly pay ranging from $19 to $22, along with a $1,500 sign-on bonus. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hospital, nursing home/health center, hotel, restaurant, or similar institution
- Ability to work flexible shifts including early mornings, evenings, and every other weekend
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Must comply with sanitation and health department regulations
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and operate kitchen equipment
- Must be dependable and punctual
Job Qualifications
- SERVSafe certification preferred
- Experience in hospital or senior living preferred
- Knowledge and experience with mechanical diets, food restrictions, allergies, etc
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a cook in a hospital or nursing home/health center preferred, or hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution
- Ability to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
- Some knowledge of nutrition and diet
- Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English
Job Duties
- Ability to work all stations in the kitchen
- Efficiently runs assigned station during the shift, follow all specs, and stock food as needed
- Maintains the quality of food and plate presentation
- Prepares all soups, stocks, sauces
- boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes
- Prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes
- Prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders
- Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours
- Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus
- Ensures all sanitation and health department guidelines are being met by maintaining cleanliness of station and assigned areas of the kitchen
