The position of Cook 2 at Harborview Medical Center offers an incredible opportunity to join a dedicated team focused on culinary excellence and compassionate service within a healthcare setting. This full-time role entails preparing high-quality meals for patients based on standardized recipes, adhering to strict infection control protocols, and ensuring the efficient assembly of food trays. The Cook 2 is crucial in maintaining operational flow within the kitchen, monitoring inventory needs, and supporting the department’s hospitality goals by providing outstanding guest relations and upholding UW Medicine's core values.
This role operates on a full-time schedule with 40 hours per week, primarily from Friday to Tuesday across two shifts (11:30 AM to 8 PM and 9:30 AM to 6 PM) with Wednesdays and Thursdays off. The Cook 2 will be a key contributor to the nutrition and food services team, executing meal preparation with attention to detail, sanitation, and nutritional standards to ensure every patient receives memorable dining experiences during their care.
Compensation for this role ranges from $21.77 to $26.31 hourly, with an additional $2,000 signing bonus available for eligible new employees. - Possession of, or eligible for, a food handler's permit
- one year of experience as a Food Service Worker or equivalent education/experience

Job Duties
- Prepares accurate, high-quality food for patients to order following standardized recipes and procedures
- keeps station and cooking equipment clean following all infection control procedures
- begins and ends tray assembly including service ware, condiments, hot and cold items as they are finished by Line and Cold Pantry Cooks
- identifies product needs and requisitions items required to prepare tray assembly
- notifies Sous Chef in advance of expected shortages
- prepares all lunch and dinner orders accurately and efficiently following food preparation procedures
