The current opening is for a full-time Cook position located at the Good Samaritan Society - Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This role is crucial to the culinary team, serving as the core of food service operations. The Cook will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals in accordance with federal, state, and company standards, ensuring all food items are attractive, tasty, and served at the correct temperature. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of prior line cook experience preferred
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job satisfactorily
  • Commitment to following food safety and sanitation standards
  • Physical ability to handle kitchen equipment and maintain clean work area
  • Flexibility to work varied full-time hours and days
  • Willingness to attend in-service and safety meetings
  • Compliance with company safety procedures including use of cut-resistant gloves and proper lifting techniques

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of line cook experience preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local food safety regulations
  • Understanding of proper food handling and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively

Job Duties

  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions
  • Serves meals or prepares for delivery using correct portioning and temperature
  • Tastes all prepared food items
  • Uses established ticket collection procedures during service
  • Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving
  • Stores or discards excess food following safe food-handling procedures
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of refrigerators and storerooms
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed
  • Assists in production planning, record keeping, and reporting
  • Assists in ordering and receiving food and supplies
  • Reports maintenance needs, faulty equipment, or accidents immediately
  • Attends in-service and safety meetings
  • Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, customers, and management
  • Performs job safely while maintaining a clean work environment
  • Ensures proper presentation and portion control, follows HACCP standards
  • Follows company safety policies regarding the use of gloves, mitts, and proper footwear
  • Performs other duties as assigned
