Job Description

Sanford Health and the Good Samaritan Society represent a leading not-for-profit organization committed to delivering exceptional healthcare and senior care services across the United States. With 46 medical centers and over 200 senior care locations nationwide, Sanford Health is dedicated to the health and well-being of its patients, residents, staff, and visitors. With an extensive network and a strong community focus, the organization emphasizes a culture of compassionate care and career development for its workforce. Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the East Patient Building is part of this expansive healthcare network where dedicated professionals contribute to the mission of providing first-rate healthcare services.

The Cook position at Sanford Health is an engaging opportunity for individuals who seek a meaningful career within the food service operations of a healthcare setting. This role supports the nutritional needs of patients and residents by preparing, seasoning, and portioning food following strict dietary guidelines. Working as part of a team, the Cook is expected to maintain cleanliness, adhere to food safety standards, and ensure that all meals served meet quality and safety expectations. Beyond just cooking, this role provides a stable work schedule, competitive pay ranging from $17.00 to $23.00 per hour, and an environment that promotes personal and professional growth. Full-time employment with 40 hours per week is standard, specifically covering evening shifts of 8 hours.

A career as a Cook with Sanford Health offers benefits typically superior to other restaurant or food service jobs. Employees enjoy a comprehensive range of perks, including differential pay, yearly bonuses, employee recognition programs, perfect attendance awards, and extensive on-the-job training that encourages skill development and career advancement. This role demands proficiency in reading and writing to follow recipes and safety instructions accurately, along with strong communication skills suited for working in a team-oriented and patient-focused environment. The Cook plays a critical role in enhancing the dining experience for those dependent on specialized diets, ensuring meals are both nutritious and appealing.

At Sanford Health, the culture embraces continuous learning, inclusivity, and dedication to service excellence. Employees are supported through mandatory education and training, including safety education and departmental meetings, ensuring a safe and efficient workspace. Depending on the location, certifications such as ServSafe, Basic Life Support (BLS), and a valid driver's license may be required or obtained after hire, underscoring the organization's commitment to the highest standards of food safety and caregiving.

This position is not just a job but a career with purpose, offering those employed the chance to contribute to the wellness of individuals in a meaningful way while working within an established and supportive healthcare community. With flexibility in scheduling and a stable full-time role, prospective cooks will find Sanford Health offers a strong foundation for career longevity and job satisfaction in the healthcare food service sector.
