The full-time Cook position is based at Hendrick Medical Center, located at 1900 Pine Street in Abilene, Texas. This role plays a critical part in the daily operations of the kitchen, directly contributing to the well-being of patients and staff through the preparation and serving of high-quality meals. The Cook will operate under established federal, state, and corporate food safety and quality standards to ensure every dish is produced to the highest expectations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior restaurant or food preparation experience preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and food handling regulations
  • Availability to work full-time Monday through Friday with rotating weekends
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to kitchen work such as lifting and operating kitchen equipment

Job Duties

  • Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions
  • Serve meals or prepare for delivery using correct portioning, ensuring food is at the correct temperature and appealing
  • Taste all prepared food items to maintain quality standards
  • Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high cleanliness standards
  • Store or discard excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures
  • Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and organized, ensuring proper storage of food and supplies
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed
  • Assist in production planning, record keeping, and reporting
  • Assist in ordering and receiving food and supplies
  • Report maintenance needs, faulty equipment, or accidents to supervisor immediately
  • Attend in-service and safety meetings
  • Maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers
  • Perform job safely while maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures following HACCP standards
  • Adhere to company policies including safety protocols for handling knives and hot equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
