Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One to three years of institutional cooking or quantity food production experience
  • Knowledge of standards measures and proper use of knives
  • Knowledge of proper sanitation practices
  • Recipe reading, comprehension, and conversion skills
  • Basic cooking skills and institutional food production experience
  • Experience using cooking equipment including slicers, food choppers, mixers, ovens, and fryers
  • Ability to work independently
  • Physical ability to bend, reach, stand, walk and lift 15-30 pounds
  • Prolonged standing for periods of three or more hours
  • Ability to verbalize so that others can understand
  • Visual and hearing acuity correctable to normal
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math
  • Ability to comprehend and execute written and oral instructions

Job Duties

  • Prepares food items accurately using recipes and production sheets
  • Ensures timely preparation of food for patient tray lines, cafeteria, and catering events
  • Uses and maintains kitchen equipment including knives, slicers, mixers, ovens, and fryers
  • Cleans and sanitizes work areas and equipment according to procedures
  • Takes and records food temperatures to ensure safety standards
  • Attends scheduled cook meetings and participates in team collaboration
  • Performs department closing duties and additional tasks as assigned
