Job Description

MetroHealth System is a well-established healthcare organization based in Northeast Ohio with nearly two centuries of dedication to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to diverse communities. As one of the prominent healthcare providers in the region, MetroHealth System emphasizes compassion, innovation, and excellence across all its services. The system offers a range of medical, surgical, and wellness programs through its state-of-the-art facilities, and it continuously invests in technology, staff training, and community outreach to maintain its reputation and service quality in the healthcare sector.

Joining MetroHealth means becoming part of a team that is not only committed to healthcare but also to creating an environment where employees can thrive professionally and personally. The organization prides itself on providing stable working hours, competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, paid time off, and opportunities for career advancement, particularly within the hospitality and health service sectors.

The position available is within the Dining Services team at MetroHealth, located in Cleveland Heights. This role plays a vital part in supporting patients and caregivers by preparing and serving restaurant-quality meals in a modern healthcare facility. The role involves a variety of cooking and food preparation tasks aimed at ensuring high standards of food quality and customer satisfaction. Employees in this role work during the early morning shift from 5:30 am to 2 pm, including rotating weekends and holidays, with biweekly hours amounting to 80 hours.

Ideal candidates bring experience in high-volume food service settings or high-quantity food production, along with a Level Two Person in Charge Food Protection Certification from an Ohio Department of Health-approved body or the ability to attain it within 90 days of employment. The position requires a good understanding of basic food preparation methods, the ability to read and comprehend English recipes, maintain logs, and effectively communicate menu options to customers. Basic mathematical skills are also essential for accurate cooking measurements.

Preferred qualifications for candidates include completion of culinary certification or coursework, possession of a high school diploma or GED, and a foundational understanding of therapeutic diet plans often used within healthcare facilities. Physically, the role demands the capability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, ambulate intermittently, and occasionally climb during the day. The work environment exposes employees to chemicals, cleaning products, and varying temperatures, and requires the ability to push, pull, or lift weights ranging from 100 to 300 pounds. Visual and auditory capabilities with or without correction are necessary for safe and effective job performance.

With an emphasis on nurturing hospitality careers within a healthcare environment, MetroHealth offers employees the chance to contribute meaningfully to patient wellness while developing valuable skills in food service management and culinary arts. The job is well-suited for candidates passionate about food preparation and customer service, who seek a stable career with opportunities for growth in a comprehensive healthcare system.
