Job Description

Black Walnut Inn & Vineyard is a boutique luxury retreat situated in the picturesque Dundee Hills region of Oregon's renowned Willamette Valley wine country. This establishment is part of the Foley Collection, a portfolio known for its distinctive luxury properties that emphasize exceptional hospitality, culinary excellence, and a deep connection to their local environments. The inn combines the charm of a vineyard setting with high-end guest experiences, offering visitors a unique blend of comfort, scenic beauty, and refined service. Guests at Black Walnut Inn & Vineyard enjoy the tranquility of a smaller, intimate lodging option that places a strong emphasis on personalized hospitality and culinary artistry inspired by the region's seasonal and local ingredients.

The Cook (Part-Time) role at Black Walnut Inn & Vineyard is a vital position within the Food & Beverage Culinary department, tasked with delivering high-quality, seasonal dishes that showcase the best of the Willamette Valley's flavors. This part-time position offers a dynamic opportunity for culinary professionals or passionate cooks who thrive in a fast-paced, quality-driven kitchen environment within the luxury hospitality sector. The cook will work closely with the culinary team to uphold and exceed the inn's elevated standards of cuisine, paying meticulous attention to detail, consistency, and presentation.

This role involves preparing and executing menu items with precision, maintaining strict adherence to recipes and portion controls, and ensuring every dish meets the highest standards for both taste and aesthetics. The cook will also be responsible for various prep functions, including washing, chopping, slicing, mixing, seasoning, and portioning ingredients efficiently and with care. Food safety and sanitation underpin every aspect of the kitchen's operation, with the cook expected to uphold rigorous standards regarding proper food handling and allergen management. The role requires operating and maintaining kitchen equipment safely and supporting the overall organization and cleanliness of workstations.

Guest experience is a core focus, with the cook contributing to creating memorable dining moments through consistency, collaboration with team members, and attention to seasonal menu offerings. Beyond technical cooking skills, the role demands professionalism, effective communication, and a commitment to continuous learning through participation in training and pre-shift meetings. The position has a schedule that includes a minimum of three shifts per week, covering evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the hospitality industry's needs.

The ideal candidate possesses prior culinary experience, preferably in restaurant, boutique hotel, or luxury hospitality environments, along with a solid understanding of kitchen workflows, food safety, and cooking techniques. The cook should demonstrate strong multitasking abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to perform under pressure without compromising quality. Communication skills and a collaborative attitude are essential for integrating seamlessly with both the culinary team and cross-departmental partners. Physical stamina and comfort working in a busy kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold, and cleaning agents are also necessary.

At Black Walnut Inn & Vineyard, team members operate in alignment with the Foley Collection's values and policies, maintaining a sincere dedication to creating meaningful guest experiences. Those joining the culinary team as a part-time cook will have the chance to contribute to a distinguished hospitality brand that celebrates the unique ambiance of Oregon's wine country while further developing their culinary expertise in an elegant and welcoming setting. The hourly wage for this position is $21.00, reflecting the establishment's commitment to valuing skilled culinary professionals.
