This entry-level Cook position at Lakeland Regional Health is a vital role within the food service department, playing a key part in ensuring patients, staff, and visitors receive nutritious and well-prepared meals. The role involves preparing meals for patients, catering events, and the cafeteria, adhering to strict quality and safety standards. The Cook is responsible for daily inventory and meal preparation using standardized recipes and food production sheets. This position contributes to the overall enhancement of quality, safety, cost control, and satisfaction for patients, customers, and employees. Working hours are set at 80 hours per biweekly pay period with shifts from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm including rotating weekends and holidays. Located at 1324 Lakeland Hills Blvd, Lakeland, FL, this benefit-eligible role offers employees the opportunity to start or continue their careers in healthcare food service in a stable and growing environment. The successful candidate will work diligently to maintain food safety protocols, monitor temperatures, store leftovers properly, and keep work areas clean and sanitary in compliance with regulatory agencies and HIPAA confidentiality standards. This job also demands strong interpersonal skills as the Cook will interact with staff regularly, ensuring compliance with dress code and hygiene standards, and participate in organizational sanitation efforts. Certification in Safe Serve or similar food service sanitation is preferred, although not required, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to develop their culinary skills in a healthcare setting.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • ability to prepare meals following standardized recipes and food safety protocols
  • basic knowledge of food handling and cooking procedures
  • capacity to monitor and document food temperatures
  • ability to maintain cleanliness and organization of work area
  • adherence to health and safety regulations including HIPAA
  • availability to work 80 hours per biweekly pay period including rotating weekends and holidays
  • willingness to wear full uniform and comply with dress code and hygiene standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • culinary school or associate degree in culinary arts preferred
  • knowledge of cooking equipment
  • ability to read recipes
  • basic knife skills
  • safe serve certification or other food service sanitation certificates preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare cook and/or bake menu items for patient services cafeteria and catering utilizing acceptable food preparation and cooking procedures
  • set up work area with all necessary food and supplies
  • monitor food production usage and replenish during meal service
  • assist with the break down of food after each meal service
  • document time and temperatures of refrigerators freezers hot holding on all food three compartment sinks dish machines on appropriate forms
  • take corrective action when food items are not at proper temperature
  • properly store leftovers and prepared foods cover label and date all products being stored
  • rotate stock and discard outdated products
  • maintain clean safe and sanitary work area including food storage areas and refrigerators/freezers
  • maintain patient confidentiality and privacy adheres to HIPAA standards
  • walk the production areas appropriately greeting each staff by name observe compliance with department dress code and hygiene standards correcting any non-compliance
  • seek input on problems review day’s menu items and recipes with employees
  • inspect all food storage areas for organization sanitation and temperatures take corrective action for non-compliances
