Job Requirements
- Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
- Minimum one year institutional food service experience as a cook
- Ability to follow established recipes and dietary guidelines
- Knowledge of food handling, preparation, and storage techniques
- Compliance with infection control and workplace safety policies

- Physical ability to perform cleaning, lifting, and standing for extended periods

Job Qualifications
- Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy

- Experience in long-term care food production preferred
- Ability to follow recipes and prepare nutritionally adequate meals
- Knowledge of state and federal food safety regulations
- Ability to supervise kitchen staff assisting with food preparation and cleaning
- Strong understanding of infection control and workplace safety procedures
- Excellent communication skills to report and comply with policies and dietary instructions
- Demonstrated integrity and respect for resident rights and dignity
- Ability to participate in training, surveys, and continuing education programs
- Capability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely
- Commitment to teamwork and efficiency.
Job Duties
- Assist cook in preparation of meals, salads, desserts, snacks or other dishes for patients/residents
- Prepare between-meal nourishments such as sandwiches
- Follow diet orders and NPO diet orders
- Serve nourishments in accordance with procedural guidelines
- Properly store leftovers/opened food
- Follow procedures for serving partner meals
- Offer menu substitutions and record them as per procedural guidelines
- Comply with infection control policies
- Deliver trays to patients/residents on halls and in dining areas
- Assist with serving/pouring juice, milk, water, tea and make coffee/tea as requested
- Clean all tables in dining areas after each meal
- Clean work area at end of shift including sweeping and mopping
- Clean kitchen equipment such as carts, tables, counters, ice machine, blender, mixer, meat slicer, freezer, refrigerator, stove, steamer, garbage disposal, dish machine, coffee/tea maker, and steam table
- Remove garbage from kitchen areas and hose out containers
- Scrape dishes, wash dishes, pots, and pans, and store properly
- Record freezer and walk-in refrigerator temperatures as per procedures
- Maintain dishwasher and dish sink, check and record water and chemical temperatures
- Maintain supply stock and store items appropriately
- Set up tray line and perform tray line service
- Operate dish machine, garbage disposal, mixer, blender, meat slicer, steamer, coffee and tea maker
- Use, clean and maintain serving equipment such as ladles, spoons, scoops
- Follow recipes and prepare foods that correspond to menu cycles prepared by Dietitian
- Assist with supervision of kitchen staff in food preparation, assembling trays, cleaning and storage
- Prepare and maintain supply of food substitutes for resident preferences
- Inspect trays following meal service and report findings
- Use food preparation equipment according to manufacturer's instructions
- Follow proper cleaning techniques and maintenance schedules
- Handle, store, and dispose of food in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Participate in center/agency surveys and prepare reports
- Attend continuing educational programs and mandatory in-services
- Honor patient/resident rights to fair treatment and privacy
- Comply with corporate compliance programs and safety policies
- Report occupational hazards and injuries
- Demonstrate knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures
- Maintain workplace safety and infection control procedures
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
