The role of Cook at Discovery Commons Cypress Point is a vital position focused on enriching the daily lives of senior residents through exceptional culinary experiences. This full-time role involves preparing and presenting a variety of nutritious and appealing meals following standardized recipes that align with the community’s menu cycle. The Cook is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment while fostering a home-like dining atmosphere that makes every resident feel cared for. Scheduled shifts include days, evenings, and weekends, reflecting the dynamic and operational needs of a senior living community. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous cooking experience preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Physical ability to lift and move kitchen equipment and supplies
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Availability to work days, evenings, and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in senior living or a similar environment preferred
  • Knowledge of production methods, portion control, and food safety/handling required
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with a team
  • High attention to detail especially in presentation and plating
  • Availability to work weekends as part of the regular schedule

Job Duties

  • Prepare a variety of hot and cold menu items including work on the grill, saute station, salad bar, and service line
  • Follow standardized recipes to ensure proper preparation, portioning, taste, and presentation of food
  • Taste and check food for quality, palatability, and adherence to culinary standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all food preparation and service areas
  • Support a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen environment in accordance with food safety and handling guidelines including maintaining temperature logs, overseeing food storage and date maintenance
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create an exceptional dining experience for residents
  • Perform other duties as assigned
