This opportunity is for a part-time Cook position within the Nutrition/Food Services category, based in Dayton, Ohio. This role is pivotal as it directly impacts patient and staff wellbeing by ensuring nutritious, delicious, and safely prepared meals are ready and available according to strict standards. The cook is responsible for preparing and seasoning food following established recipes and guidelines, emphasizing food safety management procedures such as HACCP principles and local food codes. This position requires a commitment to hygiene, efficiency, and collaboration, as the cook interacts with multiple departments within the medical center including cafeteria staff, dish room personnel, and supervisors. Adhering to best practices in equipment care, food storage, and temperature control are essential for maintaining the highest quality food service.
Additionally, this position demands strong attention to detail for managing paperwork related to recipes, food forecasting, and production. The cook uses various kitchen equipment safely and maintains cleanliness and sanitation in the food preparation areas. Scheduling for this role includes a biweekly 40-hour commitment covering alternating weekends and holidays, ensuring continuous nutritional support for patients and staff. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum one year cooking or baking experience
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods
- Ability to work with equipment generating heat, steam, or cold
- Ability to follow recipes
- Knowledge of HACCP and food safety codes
- Proper knife skills
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of one-year cooking or baking experience
- Able to read, write, and follow oral and written directions in English
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods
- Able to work safely around heat, steam, and cold equipment
- Working knowledge of HACCP and applicable food safety codes
- Demonstrated appropriate knife skills
- Experience cooking from scratch or a la carte restaurant experience preferred
Job Duties
- Cook and season food according to established recipes
- Prepare and store food following HACCP principles and food codes
- Safely use, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas
- Accurately manage position paperwork including production sheets and forecasting documents
- Follow proper hand hygiene and food safety procedures
- Collaborate effectively with cafeteria staff, dish room staff, supervisors, and others
- Monitor and control food temperatures and date-mark food items to ensure safety and quality
