Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Two years’ responsible experience in volume cooking and preparation of foods
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this job class
- Keyboard skill of 20 WPM
- Basic skills for computer and mouse
- Must pass a pre-employment physical fitness test
- Requires a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license prior to appointment and during tenure as a Department of Corrections employee
- Ability to perform duties while locked inside a correctional facility in direct contact with incarcerated offenders
- Must successfully complete the Department of Corrections Basic Training class
- Ability to read, write and understand directions
- Creativity in implementing workload

Job Duties
- Assists in the preparation of menus
- Preparation of meals and cooking and baking of foods
- Supervises kitchen operation working with and supervising offenders and maintenance
- Issues food quantities to be prepared and controls portions being served
- Prepares skilled/special meals
- Assists in maintaining inventory and requisitions for all food and supplies
- Coordinates food preparation to ensure meal preparation on an appropriate schedule
