The Cook CD - Skilled role at HMSHost is a vital position responsible for preparing cooked foods with proficiency and ensuring quality and consistency across all station functions including Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and egg cooking stations. This role demands someone who is skilled in following established recipes and product preparation directions accurately, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving a variety of food items such as soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts. The cook must be attentive to ticket times and communicate effectively with the manager on duty and servers to ensure smooth operational flow and timely service.

In addition to food preparation, the role involves cleaning and sanitizing workstations and equipment while strictly adhering to HACCP standards to maintain food safety and sanitation practices. The Cook CD - Skilled will operate various kitchen equipment, measure and mix ingredients precisely, and manage the stock by checking temperature, dating, and rotating products to prevent spoilage. The position also requires an individual capable of performing additional duties as directed by management, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.

This position is categorized as non-exempt, indicating hourly pay typically commensurate with experience, and it requires a minimum of three years of cooking experience in high volume or fast casual dining environments. Candidates should have a sound knowledge of food preparation techniques related to sauces, soups, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry operations. Physical demands include the ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds and perform repetitive tasks such as standing, bending, twisting, frequent hand immersion in water mixed with chemicals, and working in hot environments. Leadership or supervisory experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Follows recipes and product directions for preparing seasoning cooking tasting carving and serving food items including soups meats vegetables desserts and other food and beverage products
  • Tastes products follows menus estimates food requirements checks production and keeps records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Cleans and sanitizes work stations and equipment
  • Practices excellent food safety and sanitation practices and complies with HACCP standards
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment measures and mixes ingredients washes peels cuts and shreds fruits and vegetables
  • Stocks dates rotates and checks temperature of product
  • Performs other duties as assigned
