This particular role within Sanford Health is a Food Service Worker, operating in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare setting where food preparation and service contribute directly to patient health and satisfaction. The position offers flexible scheduling options and involves working a varied shift schedule with approximately 28 scheduled weekly hours. The hourly wage ranges from $17.00 to $23.50, reflecting the value placed on contributions in food service within the healthcare environment. This is a non-union role that requires a balance of independence, teamwork, and communication skills.
The Food Service Worker is responsible for preparing, assembling, cooking, seasoning, and portioning baked goods and other food items to meet menu plans and dietary restrictions for patients, residents, staff, and visitors of the facility. Adhering to rigorous food quality standards, including appearance, taste, temperature control, and sanitation, is essential in ensuring that meals served provide the highest quality nutrition. This position also involves maintaining cleanliness across cooking and serving areas through washing and cleaning tasks, managing proper labeling and storage of food items and kitchen equipment, and operating various kitchen appliances such as mixers, slicers, ovens, grills, and fryers.
This role demands an understanding and implementation of food safety protocols, including adherence to Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines and proper documentation to guarantee food safety and regulatory compliance. The Food Service Worker must demonstrate comfort and proficiency in reading and interpreting recipes, basic math for accurate portion measurement, and the physical stamina to remain on feet and move throughout the hospital setting extensively during shifts.
