Job Description

Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC) is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low-income and underserved communities across the Southwestern United States. With a rich history rooted in advocacy, economic development, education, and social services, CPLC strives to create opportunities that transform lives and sustain thriving communities. Known for its culturally responsive and community-centric approach, CPLC operates numerous programs and initiatives that address housing, health, education, employment, and community development needs. This organization is deeply committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, fostering an impact that respects the variety of thought, culture, background, and perspective essential to building a vibrant workforce. CPLC maintains a focus on fair and just hiring, training, and promotional practices to ensure opportunities for all qualified candidates.

CPLC’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs exemplify the organization’s mission by providing full-day, full-year early education services to children aged 0-3 years and their families, especially those from low-income backgrounds. The Migrant Head Start program specifically serves children of migrant and seasonal farmworking families, ensuring these children receive educationally stimulating environments that support school readiness and lifelong success.

This role, the Cook Aide position, is full-time and plays a crucial part within the ECD food services team under the supervision of the Cook or Center Service Manager. The Cook Aide assists in preparing nutritious meals, serving food, and maintaining cleanliness in the food service area while adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations, including USDA guidelines. The position requires constant vigilance to safety and hygiene, with a focus on promoting a healthy, safe, and supportive learning environment for young children. Beyond routine food service tasks, the Cook Aide actively supervises children by sight and sound, ensuring their safety within indoor and outdoor areas and during transportation on school buses. This commitment to child safety and school readiness is a vital part of the position’s responsibilities.

CPLC offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package reflecting the organization’s dedication to employee wellness and retention. Benefits include generous paid holidays, paid time off and sick days, extensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their families, and valuable wellness programs. Additional perks such as a 401(k) retirement plan, employee recognition programs, tuition reimbursement for qualifying degrees, and various voluntary benefits further demonstrate CPLC’s investment in its workforce. Employees also benefit from telemedicine and concierge services, employee assistance programs, and health savings accounts, all aimed at supporting a balanced and healthy professional life.

By joining CPLC as a Cook Aide within the Early Childhood Development program, you become part of a mission-driven team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families. It is a role well-suited for individuals passionate about food service, child development, and community empowerment — all within a stable and supportive nonprofit environment. The position is based in California and operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, aligning with typical full-time weekday hours. CPLC emphasizes equal opportunity employment and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply, supporting the organization’s commitment to inclusive and equitable hiring practices.
