Job Description

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham (BID-Needham) is a reputable licensed 58-bed acute care community hospital that has proudly served the communities of Needham, Newton, Dedham, Dover, Medfield, Sherborn, Wellesley, Westwood, and the surrounding areas for over a century. Renowned for its commitment to quality and patient safety, the hospital has earned prestigious recognitions, including the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission and a first-place Accountable Care Compass Award from the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association. As part of the expansive Beth Israel Lahey Health system, BID-Needham benefits from a strong network that combines academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, and specialty care facilities with over 4,000 physicians and 35,000 employees working collaboratively to enhance healthcare access, advance medical science, and provide comprehensive education and research.

The role being offered is a vital part of the hospital's food services team. Reporting to the Production Manager or Director, the position involves preparing a variety of food items that meet the nutritional needs of patients as well as catering to the cafeteria, traveling meals programs, and special functions. The role requires a keen focus on food safety, adherence to established sanitation protocols, and the ability to manage and supervise kitchen staff during morning and weekend shifts. In addition, the incumbent may be called upon to assume the responsibilities of the Production Manager when necessary, demonstrating leadership and operational flexibility.

This position involves preparing all breakfast and lunch entrees according to established tallies, setting up food for the patient tray line in compliance with standards, and ensuring food safety by temperature testing before service. The employee is also responsible for following standardized recipes and overseeing the proper functioning of kitchen staff in the absence of the Production Manager. The candidate will assign duties to teams working on cold food preparation, functions, and dishroom operations as needed.

The physical nature of the job is medium work, requiring employees to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. The role demands standing and moving for most of the shift, emphasizing physical stamina and endurance. The pay range for this position is $19.68 to $26.49 per hour, reflecting factors such as education, seniority, certifications, and shift differentials. Moreover, as a healthcare organization committed to protecting its patients, colleagues, and community, Beth Israel Lahey Health mandates influenza vaccination as an employment condition.

Joining BID-Needham means becoming part of a diverse and professional team that includes nurses, doctors, therapists, researchers, and educators, all dedicated to making a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who value teamwork, quality service, and wish to contribute to a healthcare environment that prioritizes compassion and excellence.
