Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in hospital food production preferred
- Must have knowledge of foods/nutrition, food preparation, food production and institutional cooking equipment
- Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast paced environment
- Ability to pass all required health and screening tests
- Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods
- Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds
- Ability to work in hot and humid areas
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment
- Ability to follow department and hospital safety regulations
- Ability to work irregular or extended hours as needed
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in hospital food production preferred
- Knowledge of foods and nutrition, food preparation, food production and institutional cooking equipment
- Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast paced environment
- Understanding of hospital fire, safety and disaster programs
- Familiarity with HACCP guidelines and standard isolation procedures
- ServSafe certification preferred
Job Duties
- Previews production guides to determine type and quantities of meats, vegetables, soups, salads and desserts to be prepared
- Plans and coordinates cooking schedules so that foods will be available at required times
- Prepares, seasons and cooks food according to recipes and diet modifications
- Uses a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment including grinders, slicers, mixers and blenders
- Ensures all foods prepared meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance
- Inspects and maintains cleanliness and proper operation of cooking equipment and utensils
- Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food and alerts supervisor to problems with equipment and supplies
