Job Description

Presbyterian Homes and Services (PHS) is a well-established nonprofit, faith-based organization that has been serving older adults since 1955. Headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, PHS operates across Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, managing more than 60 affiliated senior living communities and providing a broad array of high-quality housing choices, care, and service options for seniors. With a workforce of approximately 8,000 employees, the organization is deeply committed to promoting independence, purposeful living, and overall well-being for the older adults it serves. Known for its innovative leadership, PHS is one of the largest nonprofit providers of senior housing and services in the country, and through its subsidiary, Optage, it also delivers home and community services. Additionally, PHS co-owns Genevive, the largest geriatric primary care practice in Minnesota, which offers comprehensive care to over 15,500 older adults.

Kirkland Crossings, one of the communities under PHS, is located in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, on a beautifully designed 12-acre campus that preserves the natural prairie setting with ponds, meadows, and foot trails. It serves as an inviting and serene environment for seniors and staff alike, grounded in the Christian ministry values that form the cornerstone of the organization’s identity. Kirkland Crossings seeks to maintain a compassionate and thriving community where residents, employees, and volunteers share a culture of support, empowerment, and grace. The community offers care options including Assisted Living and Assisted Living with Memory Care.

PHS is currently hiring a full-time Cook/Chef to join the Nutrition and Culinary team at Kirkland Crossings. This role is vital for creating nutritious, high-quality meals that contribute to the overall dining experience of residents. The Cook/Chef will work 64 hours per payroll with 8-hour shifts usually from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Some flexibility in scheduling is offered, with occasional weekend and holiday shifts that include holiday premium pay. This role does not require evening or late-night hours, making it ideal for candidates seeking consistent and reliable work schedules. The hourly wage ranges from $18.33 to $21.57 based on experience, with biannual increases tied to market and performance.

This position demands strong knowledge of food safety regulations and the ability to prepare attractive, nutritious, and palatable meals according to PHS policies and state and federal standards. The candidate must be adept at communicating effectively with customers and embody the PHS mission through a service-oriented, ministry-focused mindset. The organization values individuals who align with their Christian Ministry values, demonstrating compassion, respect, and teamwork.

Working at PHS offers numerous benefits including comprehensive health and dental insurance with health savings accounts, retirement plans with employer matching, paid time off, holiday pay, life insurance, and educational assistance programs. Full-time employees receive benefits eligibility starting at 30 hours per week, but part-time employees working between 20 to 29 hours also qualify for several benefits such as vision insurance and disability coverage. The workplace culture nurtures growth and internal promotion, access to fitness facilities, on-site resources like a library, and community engagement through social spaces like patios and fire pits.

Presbyterian Homes and Services fosters an inclusive, welcoming environment supportive of diverse individuals without regard to race, creed, religion, or other protected statuses. The organization firmly believes in honoring God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults, making it a fulfilling place to work for individuals dedicated to serving others in a faith-based community-focused setting.
