Job Description

McConnell Air Force Base is a prominent military installation that supports the Air Force and Space Force's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) programs. Within this environment, the Bowling Alley functions as a key recreational facility providing food services to military personnel, their families, and visitors to the base. This Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) position at the Bowling Alley on McConnell AFB is integral in delivering quality food services. The primary purpose of this role is to perform a variety of simple cooking tasks that support the food service operations. With a pay rate of $19.76 per hour and a permanent, intermittent work schedule, this job offers a unique opportunity to work within a structured military community while contributing to the enjoyment and wellbeing of the workforce and their families. The role involves preparing and cooking basic menu items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and vegetables with minimal processing required. It also includes preparing hot cereals, broiled meats, and making convenient food items like frozen hash browns, fish fillets, chicken nuggets, and pizza. The cook will perform food preparation techniques including peeling, chopping, grinding, slicing, dicing, dredging, breading, and assembling ingredients following standardized recipes. Additionally, maintaining food quality by following recipes accurately, minimizing waste, and ensuring proper food storage and sanitation practices are central to this position.

Physical demands of the job are significant, involving continual standing, walking, and frequent stooping, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds, sometimes requiring assistance for heavier items. Working conditions may be challenging due to exposure to hot and noisy kitchen environments, steam, fumes, and various safety hazards such as burns and cuts.

This position requires successful completion of a background investigation, ability to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate or complete food handler training, and passing a pre-employment physical exam to ensure fitness for the role. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform simple cooking tasks by preparing and cooking items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers and vegetables
  • Prepare hot cereals, broiled meats, concentrated soups, sauces, gravies, and cold sandwich fillings
  • Prepare convenience items such as frozen hash browns, fish fillets, chicken nuggets and pizza
  • Prepare food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading
  • Weigh, measure and assemble ingredients for menu items
  • Set up and replenish salad bar
  • Portion foods for meal service
  • Cover, date and store leftovers according to procedures
  • Wash and clean kitchen equipment
  • Mix ingredients according to written recipes to produce quality products, minimize preparation time and reduce waste
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
