The role of Cook at Bass Pro Shops' resort food and beverage outlets focuses on preparing and portioning food items with precision and care to ensure guests receive exceptional dining experiences. This position requires a thorough understanding of various cooking techniques including soup and stock preparation, grilling, and roasting. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in handling kitchen tools and equipment safely and efficiently and will take on leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Sous Chef. This position plays a crucial part in maintaining kitchen cleanliness and operational standards, participating actively in the training of new kitchen personnel, and collaborating closely with kitchen management to uphold the brand’s commitment to excellence. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two to four years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to calculate basic mathematical figures and apply algebra and geometry concepts
- Ability to work well in teams and maintain efficiency in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Physical ability to walk, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Comfortable working in wet, humid, and high-temperature conditions
- Available to follow established procedures and exercise occasional independent judgment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree in culinary field or fifth year college or university program certificate preferred
- Two to four years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and basic algebra and geometry concepts
- Problem-solving skills with ability to interpret various instructions
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced kitchen environment and a learning attitude
Job Duties
- Prepare and portion foods for the resort's food and beverage outlets
- Make soups, stocks, grilling and roasts using varied methods and techniques
- Handle kitchen knives and operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Assume control of the kitchen in absence of a Sous Chef
- Follow the kitchen chain of command, including Chefs and Cooks levels
- Train new cooks actively
- Assist in maintaining kitchen cleanliness and operations
- Perform all other assigned duties
