Job Description
Sodexo is a global leader in quality of life services, partnering with clients to deliver exceptional food service, facilities management, and integrated solutions worldwide. Operating with a mission to create a better everyday for everyone, Sodexo thrives on improving the quality of life for those it serves, fostering economic, social, and environmental progress. The company values inclusion and respects individuality, emphasizing an environment where every employee can be themselves, share ideas freely, and thrive in a supportive, diverse workplace.
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston is currently seeking a part-time Cook to join their team working with Sodexo. This role offers an hourly wage between $13.00 and $16.00. The position involves varying shifts and schedules requiring open availability, ideal for highly motivated individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic kitchen environment. This role is not suitable for university students with hour restrictions, including international students, who are encouraged to consider student worker positions instead.
As a Cook, you will be at the heart of Sodexo's culinary operations, responsible for preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a diverse range of hot and cold food items across multiple meal periods and events. Precision and adherence to Sodexo’s culinary standards for quality, presentation, and consistency are paramount. Your role ensures customers enjoy high-quality, tasty, and safely prepared meals while maintaining a clean, organized workstation.
This fast-paced position demands effective teamwork, strong attention to food safety and sanitation standards, and flexibility to support various kitchen needs and client requirements. Duties extend beyond cooking to include menu reading, tasting products, estimating food needs, and managing production records to accurately plan ingredient requisitions. The role requires physical stamina, including ability to stand or walk for extended periods, lift substantial weights, and perform repetitive motions successfully.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent experience, with 0 to 2 years in related cooking or kitchen roles. Familiarity with kitchen equipment and basic food-handling procedures is preferred. Strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions, read and interpret recipes independently, and prepare meals professionally is essential. Sodexo’s commitment to your professional development means ongoing training and advancement opportunities are available, nurturing your growth within the company.
Beyond the kitchen, Sodexo offers a flexible and supportive work environment valuing life’s important moments, with benefits that support your well-being and career longevity. These include paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, 401k plans, and employee discount programs. Specific locations may provide additional perks like free shift meals, uniforms, and transportation support.
Overall, Sodexo invites passionate individuals who want to contribute to a positive dining experience, build strong team camaraderie, and uphold the highest standards of food quality and safety. Sodexo’s inclusive culture is deeply committed to equal employment opportunities and fostering belonging among all employees. Join Sodexo and be part of a company that makes a meaningful impact daily by creating better lives and better workplaces globally.
