Job Description

The university's dining services department is dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious meals to students, staff, faculty, and visitors. Our commitment to excellence ensures that every dining experience is memorable, enjoyable, and safe. As part of a large educational institution, the dining services team works collaboratively to maintain a superior standard in food quality, safety, and customer service. We embrace diversity and encourage innovative approaches to food preparation and presentation while adhering to established health regulations and institutional standards.

As a cook within the university's kitchen team, you will play a vital role in supporting the culinary operations by working closely with the chef and kitchen manager. Your primary responsibilities will focus on assisting with food preparation and presentation, ensuring that all menu items meet the university's quality and safety standards. This role encompasses receiving and examining food supplies to verify their quality and quantity according to specifications, which requires a keen eye for detail and commitment to maintaining excellent standards. You will also be responsible for cutting, trimming, carving, and boning meats and poultry, preparing a variety of dishes including meats, sauces, vegetables, and soups, according to recipes provided. Collaboration with kitchen staff is essential to maintaining efficient workflow and ensuring timely service.

Additionally, the position involves regular cleaning and stocking tasks to prepare kitchen lines for the next day’s operation, which is critical to supporting ongoing food service activities. Maintaining food safety protocols and personal hygiene standards is imperative to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with health regulations. The role requires flexibility in work hours including the possibility of evenings and weekends to meet operational needs. The university supports reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about culinary arts and eager to grow within a professional kitchen environment, contributing to the university community.
