Job Description
The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department is a crucial establishment dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for service members, their families, and authorized patrons. MWR offers a wide range of programs, activities, and services designed to promote well-being, resilience, and social interaction within the military community. The department operates various facilities including recreational centers, dining establishments, sports complexes, and leisure venues. Committed to providing excellent support and hospitality, MWR plays a vital role in sustaining morale and welfare across military installations.
Within this dynamic environment, the department is seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to perform a variety of culinary duties. This role involves preparing and cooking an array of menu items, including regular and special entrees and dessert offerings. The Cook will be essential in ensuring high-quality food preparation aligned with MWR's standards and customer satisfaction goals. This position is classified under the employment type "OTHER" and does not require specific formal education qualifications. Individuals in this role will demonstrate practical knowledge and skills in food preparation principles and safety to contribute effectively to the department's food service operations.
As an MWR Cook, the incumbent will engage in tasks that necessitate understanding the physical changes food undergoes during cooking, coordinating meal preparation schedules to serve timely and well-prepared dishes, and maintaining food safety and sanitation standards. The role demands careful evaluation of food items for freshness, proper inventory management, and adherence to established food service protocols. This position offers an opportunity to work within a structured and supportive federal employment framework where adherence to regulations and quality standards is paramount.
The MWR Cook will also be involved in maintaining compliance with food spoilage prevention, foodborne illness control, and proper storage methodologies. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of food preparation techniques, safety protocols, and operational procedures essential to the smooth running of the food service units. Candidates are encouraged to showcase their experience in cooking, inventory handling, and meal planning to be considered competitive for this role.
This position requires a one-year specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in related food service tasks and responsibilities. Experience must cover competencies in meal planning, food preparation, and safety procedures. Candidates should be ready to clearly articulate their qualifications and provide comprehensive documentation of their past roles, including government and non-government employment details, to facilitate the evaluation process.
Successful applicants will undergo background checks, employment verification procedures such as E-VERIFY, and comply with the requirement to participate in direct deposit pay programs. Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service, and the candidate must be suitable for federal employment. This Cook role provides the chance to contribute to a mission-driven organization that prioritizes welfare and recreation within military communities, promoting both professional growth and personal satisfaction.
