Evans Army Community Hospital, located at the Fort Carson military installation in Colorado, offers comprehensive healthcare services primarily to military personnel, their families, and authorized veterans. The hospital is known for providing exceptional medical care with a commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its patients in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Staffed by dedicated healthcare professionals and support personnel, Evans Army Community Hospital fosters a culture of excellence, teamwork, and service to the community it serves. Joining this institution means becoming part of a mission-driven team focused on the highest medical standards and dedicated to public service within a military context.
This open, full-time permanent position available at Evans Army Community Hospital is for a Cook position classified under the WG 4 pay scale, offering an hourly salary range of $22.15 to $25.84. This role is crucial in providing high-quality food preparation and patient tray services, ensuring that the nutritional needs of patients are met with safety and care. Working in this position demands adherence to strict food safety and sanitation standards in a busy hospital kitchen environment. The role involves preparing various meals including modified salads, breakfast foods, and assembling patient trays tailored to regular and modified diet requirements. Candidates must be physically capable of handling moderate to heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds, and working flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
As a Cook at Evans Army Community Hospital, you will be expected to carry out essential kitchen tasks with minimal supervision, demonstrating competence in using various cooking equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, and microwaves. The position requires a strong attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, along with the ability to follow safety protocols rigorously. The role supports the hospital’s mission by ensuring that tasty, safe, and nutritious meals are reliably provided to patients, directly contributing to their recovery and well-being. The environment can be physically demanding, with exposure to hot kitchens, cold refrigerated areas, and occasional hazards such as cuts or burns, necessitating adherence to safety and operational guidelines.
Candidates applying for this position should possess or demonstrate the practical skills to prepare food items efficiently while following established procedures for portion control and diet modifications. While there is no formal education requirement, applicants must provide evidence through their application materials that they can successfully perform the role’s duties. Ideal candidates are those who have previous experience in food preparation, cooking simple menus, and managing food safety in institutional settings, though prior specialized training is not mandatory.
Additional conditions include passing suitability and background investigations, consent to random drug testing, and completing required immunizations including hepatitis B due to direct patient contact. This role is designated essential during inclement weather and mission-critical operations, requiring reliable attendance even during challenging circumstances. Prospective employees are expected to uphold the values of public service, the United States Constitution, and contribute positively to the Federal government’s efficiency.
