As part of this mission, Corewell Health is hiring a full-time Cook position at their Nutrition Department located at SITE - 1226 Cedar St NE, Grand Rapids. The role is designed for individuals passionate about culinary arts and eager to contribute to the nutritional well-being of patients, guests, and team members. As a Cook, you will engage in both hot and cold food preparation across multiple service formats including restaurants, room service, and grab & go markets. This role operates on a day shift, with scheduled hours from 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., typically covering 40 hours per week and working every other weekend.
The Cook will be responsible for a wide range of cooking duties that utilize varied culinary techniques such as frying, baking, broiling, braising, and grilling. Preparing soups, cereals, eggs, entrees, and vegetables will be part of the daily tasks, requiring a strong understanding of food quality, safety standards, and presentation aesthetics to ensure consistency and appeal. This position demands attention to detail in following standardized recipes, managing food inventory based on fluctuating customer volumes, and maintaining proper food temperatures through diligent monitoring and logging.
In addition to food preparation, the Cook will assemble and prepare ingredients through cleaning and cutting, set up steam tables for patient and cafeteria tray lines, and communicate effectively with fellow staff members to sustain service continuity. Maintaining proper storage by labeling, dating, and responsibly using leftovers per standards is essential for minimizing waste and promoting food safety.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of relevant experience in food service or equivalent experience
- CRT-accredited food protection manager, CFP - ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 days or CRT-accredited food handler - ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 days and CRT-accredited food allergy certificate - ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 days
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of relevant experience in food service or equivalent experience
- CRT-accredited food protection manager, CFP - ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 days or CRT-accredited food handler - ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 days and CRT-accredited food allergy certificate - ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 days
- vocational or technical courses in food preparation preferred
- course of sixteen weeks to one year in baking education and cake decorating techniques preferred
Job Duties
- Perform hot food preparation including frying, baking, broiling, braising and grilling
- prepare soups, cereals, eggs, entrees, vegetables, and other food items as necessary
- monitor food quantity needs as customer counts or volumes vary
- assemble and prepare ingredients for cooking by cleaning and cutting
- follow standardized recipes, calculating ingredients based on weight and volume
- monitor food quality, assess food presentation in regards to taste, texture and eye appeal and maintain food temperatures
- record temperatures correctly on temperature log sheets
- take responsibility to replace food items that do not fit our standards
- store food items as required, labeling and dating items per standards
- appropriately utilize leftovers within allotted time
- set up steam tables on patient and cafeteria tray lines
- communicate with other staff members to ensure continuity and coordination of services
