The role of Cook 2 at Sky Terrace Cafe is a crucial position within the kitchen team. This experienced line cook is responsible for preparing food in line with federal, state, and local food safety regulations while following established policies and procedures to ensure quality. This position requires a hands-on approach in various cooking methods such as grilling, frying, baking, steaming, and sautéing, along with minimal supervision due to the experienced nature of the role. The Cook 2 will assist team members, help develop and train on new menu items, and maintain an organized and sanitary workspace. The role demands proficiency in handling food portions, preparing sauces, soups, and other dishes, and working collaboratively with the Cafe and Kitchen Managers to provide exceptional culinary experiences. The Cook 2 will also be responsible for maintaining ServeSafe and HACCP standards for safe food handling and presentation, promptly reporting any issues or incidents, and contributing to the overall cleanliness and order of the kitchen. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment where attention to detail, multitasking, and teamwork are key to success.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid California Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a professional kitchen
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow safety and sanitation regulations
  • Reliable transportation for commuting
  • Willingness to comply with company policies
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Assist the team with daily tasks as directed by supervisor or kitchen manager
  • Perform basic line cooking including grilling, frying, baking, steaming, and sautéing
  • Handle various cooking methods with minimal training
  • Develop, execute, and train staff on new menu items
  • Communicate needs and maintain a sanitary and organized workspace
  • Prepare, portion, and cook hot and cold food including chopping vegetables, portioning meat, soups, and sauces
  • Follow instructions from Cafe and Kitchen Managers
  • Clean up workstations and properly store or dispose of leftover food
  • Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies
  • Maintain ServeSafe and HACCP standards
  • Report problems immediately to Cafe Manager
  • Assist with checking in and storing incoming orders
  • Report incidents, accidents, and unsafe conditions promptly
  • Follow safety rules and regulations
  • Ensure food quality and proper temperatures
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and storage areas
  • Attend staff meetings as directed
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by supervisors to ensure quality food service
