Job Description
This job opening is for the position of Cook at a dynamic restaurant environment where the focus is on preparing delicious, high-quality food products in a fast-paced setting. The establishment is committed to maintaining operational excellence and ensuring that food preparation runs smoothly while complying with high sanitation and safety standards. As a nonexempt position, the cook will be supervised by the Manager on Duty (MOD), who oversees daily operations and staff performance to guarantee a seamless customer experience.
The Cook plays a vital role in the restaurant by cooking, preparing, and packaging food products that meet the company’s operational and quality standards. The position involves working at various stations including the dresser, front swamp, back swamp, grill, and food prep stations. Essential to this job is the regular performance of cleaning and sanitation duties to ensure a hygienic environment, which includes tasks such as trash disposal, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes and food preparation tools, wiping counters, and sanitizing food preparation areas. The Cook is expected to maintain regular attendance and contribute to a positive work environment by reporting any customer or employee complaints or issues to the Manager on Duty. The role demands physical activity, including moving and stocking food products weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as the ability to perform tasks assigned or required by management.
This position requires working irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the nature of the hospitality industry that operates beyond typical business hours. The ideal candidate should possess general restaurant or retail knowledge, basic math and reading skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to follow directions accurately. Multitasking is an essential skill due to the varied nature of responsibilities involved in food preparation and maintaining operational efficiency.
The work environment is physically demanding, requiring continuous standing, bending, reaching, moving, stooping, stretching, and lifting, often in temperatures affected by cooking equipment or outdoor weather conditions. There is frequent exposure to heat and hot liquid shortening in the kitchen, as well as cold exposure while stocking food in freezers. The Cook should be prepared to adapt to these conditions and ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
In summary, this Cook position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food preparation and restaurant operations, who thrive in a lively, challenging environment. The organization values teamwork, dedication, and a commitment to quality and safety standards. Those selecting this role can expect comprehensive training, a supportive management structure, and a chance to develop their culinary skills in a demanding yet rewarding setting.
