The Cook position is integral to the day-to-day culinary operations. Responsibilities include cooking and preparing food in accordance with approved menus, directing kitchen staff activities, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment and work areas, and managing inventory of supplies and equipment. The role requires close collaboration with Food Service leadership and dietitians to ensure menus meet nutritional standards and offer varied options that satisfy customer preferences. Beyond food preparation, the Cook is responsible for coordinating food production, cleaning schedules, maintenance, and inventory controls. Compliance with all established policies, quality criteria, cost parameters, and regulatory requirements is essential. This role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with a team under general supervision. The Cook will contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient kitchen environment and participate in ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of service and operational processes.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Additional education or training in the culinary field preferred
- Two or more years experience in food service role in preparing food for institutions such as school, hospital or cafeteria preferred
- ServSafe Certification or similar food safety certification where required by the state or facility

Job Duties
- Cook and prepare food according to approved menus
- Direct activities of workers who assist in preparing and serving meals
- Clean and inspect equipment, kitchen appliances and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation
- Take inventory of supplies and equipment
- Work with Food Service leadership or Dietitian to ensure menus are varied, nutritionally balanced and appetizing
- Perform and coordinate food production, cleaning, maintenance, and inventory control activities
- Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, quality standards, cost parameters, and appropriate regulatory requirements
