The role of Cook is integral to this restaurant's success, involving the preparation, cooking, and packaging of food products in compliance with established operational and quality standards. The position reports directly to the Manager on Duty (MOD) and is classified as nonexempt. It requires working irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of the business. The Cook operates various food preparation stations such as dressers, grills, and swamps, ensuring all tasks are performed with a high degree of precision and care. This role also requires employees to perform regular cleaning and sanitation duties following strict operational standards, promoting a safe and hygienic kitchen environment.

In addition to cooking and preparation, the Cook is responsible for handling customer or employee issues by reporting them promptly to the MOD and managing food products, including moving and stocking items up to 50 pounds. This role demands effective verbal and written communication skills, basic math and reading capabilities, and the ability to follow directions accurately. The work environment is physically demanding, involving continuous standing, bending, reaching, moving, stooping, stretching, and lifting, with frequent exposure to heat and hot liquids during cooking and occasional exposure to extreme weather when stocking food items. The Cook's consistent attendance and dedication to their responsibilities contribute directly to the smooth operation of the restaurant and the satisfaction of its customers, making this role both challenging and rewarding.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous cooking or food preparation experience preferred
  • Ability to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Capability to stand, bend, reach, move, stoop, stretch, and lift continuously in a fast-paced restaurant environment
  • Ability to follow food safety and sanitation standards
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Cook, prepare, and package food product pursuant to operational and quality standards
  • Operate dresser, front swamp, back swamp, grill, and food prep stations as assigned
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards
  • Perform regular cleaning and sanitation duties including trash disposal, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes and food preparation tools, wiping counters, sanitizing food preparation areas, cleaning equipment, and emptying used grease pursuant to operational standards
  • Maintain regular attendance
  • Report customer or employee complaints or issues to Manager on Duty
  • Move and stock food product weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required
