Banner Health is a non-profit health system dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves. With a comprehensive network of hospitals, clinics, and specialized health care services located across several states, including Arizona, Banner Health is recognized for its commitment to quality care and patient satisfaction. The organization focuses on advancing medical knowledge through research, offering compassionate care, and providing a welcoming, supportive environment for both patients and employees. Banner Health takes pride in its diverse workforce and inclusive culture, emphasizing continuous growth and professional development for its team members.
Located in Glendale, Arizona, this particular position is within Banner Health's facilities, environmental services, and culinary department, focusing on delivering exceptional food services in a healthcare setting. This role operates on varied shifts, with scheduled weekday hours primarily from 7am to 3:30pm and includes every other weekend off. The position also requires participation in weekend and holiday rotations, and offers a flat rate $1 per hour weekend shift differential when applicable. Employment with Banner Health offers an engaging and rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to patient care and overall experience by ensuring nutrition services meet high standards.
The role of Cook within Banner Health is integral to the food production services that cater to patients, retail dining, and special events across the facility. The Cook is responsible for preparing fresh hot foods following standardized recipes and adapting to production needs based on daily menus and catering requests. This includes assisting in food preparation and occasionally serving in varied capacities. The Cook must efficiently manage food production timing and quantities, adjust recipes to meet demand, minimize food waste, and maintain accurate records of shortages or excesses.
In addition to cooking responsibilities, the Cook is tasked with maintaining cleanliness and order in assigned work areas, ensuring sanitation protocols are followed, and monitoring food and equipment temperatures to meet safety standards. The position involves restocking supplies, rotating food inventory based on freshness, and occasionally receiving deliveries or assisting in menu planning. Working under general supervision, the Cook also provides leadership within the kitchen staff by sharing expertise in cooking techniques and food safety practices.
The ideal candidate will have at least a high school diploma or GED and two or more years of experience in institutional food production, with a strong understanding of cooking principles, menu substitutions, and modification for special diets. Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, particularly within healthcare or institutional settings, is highly valued. Candidates should be capable of performing math calculations related to recipe quantities, following strict food handling regulations, and safely using cleaning chemicals.
Banner Health emphasizes compliance with food safety certifications, requiring team members to obtain a food handler's card within 30 days of hire where applicable. Employees at behavioral health facilities must also hold an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card. Banner Health is proud to maintain a drug-free workplace and supports equal employment opportunities for disabled veterans and all qualified candidates.
This position offers a unique chance to be part of a healthcare system that not only prioritizes patient care but also values the contributions of team members who support its mission through quality food service. Working as a Cook at Banner Health provides a career path filled with opportunity for growth, teamwork, and the satisfaction of positively impacting the lives of patients and community members through dedicated service.
