The role of Cook at HMSHost is an integral part of the company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing cooked foods with a focus on maintaining high standards of taste, presentation, and food safety. This position requires proficiency in multiple cooking stations, including Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and egg preparation. Attention to detail and effective communication with management and serving staff are essential to ensure prompt service and address any issues that may arise.

This is a non-exempt position that offers $19.00 per hour and includes comprehensive benefits. The Cook will engage in a variety of tasks including following recipes, seasoning and cooking food items, tasting to ensure quality, and managing food production records to accurately plan and requisition supplies. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment while adhering to HACCP standards is a critical aspect of this role.

Candidates should have at least one year of related cooking experience, preferably in a high-volume, casual dining environment, and possess strong knowledge of food preparation methods across multiple kitchen areas such as Soups, Sauté, Broiler, Fry, and Pantry. Physical stamina to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, twist, and stand for extended periods is required. The ability to communicate clearly and comprehend instructions and policies is essential for success in this role.

Job Requirements

  • Food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
  • Minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience
  • Experience in high volume and casual dining restaurant environment preferred
  • Food knowledge pertaining to Soups, Sauté, Broiler, Fry, and Pantry
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents
  • Ability to converse comfortably with customers
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to bend, twist, and stand to perform normal job functions
  • Frequently immerses hands in water and water diluted with chemical solutions
  • Frequently works with sharp knives, utensils, and hot plates
  • Frequently works in hot environment

Job Duties

  • Follows recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving food items including soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other food and beverage products
  • Tastes products, follows menus, estimates food requirements, checks production and keeps records to plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Cleans and sanitizes work stations and equipment
  • Practices excellent food safety and sanitation practices and complies with HACCP standards
  • Operates kitchen equipment, measures and mixes ingredients, washes, peels, cuts and shreds fruits and vegetables
  • Stocks, dates, rotates, and checks temperature of products
