Job Description

This opportunity is with an Adult Care Home, which provides compassionate and personalized care to residents in a supportive living environment. The facility is committed to maintaining high standards of care and service, ensuring the well-being, dignity, and safety of every individual they serve. At the heart of their mission is a commitment to providing nutritionally adequate and appealing meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of all residents. This includes a focus on quality, consistency, and therapeutic dietary requirements based on physician orders and dietitian consultations.

The role is for a dietary professional responsible for planning, preparing, and serving menus that meet nutritional standards and resident satisfaction. The position entails advancing meal planning practices by scheduling menus at least one week ahead with detailed portions and snack options specified to guarantee a minimum of three meals daily. Responsibilities extend to preparing therapeutic menus in compliance with medical guidance, maintaining an updated food preference list for each resident, and ensuring safe food handling by serving hot foods above 140 degrees Fahrenheit and cold foods below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.

Additional duties include preparing nutritional bag lunches for residents attending offsite programs and ensuring menu snacks are served daily. The role requires effective inventory management, purchasing within budget, checking food deliveries, and maintaining accurate records for administrative review. Beyond food preparation and service, the role demands a commitment to resident dignity and safety, confidentiality, cooperation with other staff and families, and compliance with all safety, emergency, and workplace policies and procedures.

The position also involves active participation in continuing education and adherence to Adult Care Home policies, as well as reporting residents' eating habits and special needs to the administration. This position requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift, push, or pull at least 50 pounds, and adherence to cleanliness standards based on North Carolina Environmental Health requirements. The candidate must also comply with the North Carolina Rules and Regulations and maintain a clear background and driving record throughout employment.

Job Requirements

  • Must have experience in food service
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and follow directions
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must maintain cleanliness of kitchen within NC Environmental Health Standards
  • Must have an understanding of NC Rules and Regulations
  • Must have no substantiated findings on the NC Personnel Registry or Health Care Program
  • Must have a clear SBI and DMV record and maintain them during period of employment
  • Must wear slip resistant shoes while working in dietary at all times

Job Duties

  • Prepare required menus at least one week in advance with portions specified and snacks shown
  • Plan therapeutic menus per physicians' orders in consultation with a registered dietitian
  • Record any menu substitutions on menu calendar before food is served
  • Post menus in kitchen for guidance of food service staff and make available to residents
  • Maintain an up-to-date preference list of foods for each resident
  • Prepare and serve three meals a day at regular hours with at least 10 hours between breakfast and dinner
  • Assure hot foods are served hot above 140 degrees F and cold foods served cold below 45 degrees F
  • Prepare nutritional bag lunches for residents attending offsite programs
  • Prepare and serve appropriate menu snacks daily
  • Take inventory and purchase food and supplies within budget
  • Check all food deliveries for accuracy and keep records for administrative review
  • Help maintain residents' self-respect, dignity, and safety
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information
  • Work cooperatively with staff and relate favorably to residents and families
  • Be familiar with and apply accident, fire safety, OSHA and emergency procedures
  • Assist residents with exercising their rights per Adult Care Home Residents' Bill of Rights
  • Use equipment and supplies carefully and according to policy
  • Read and adhere to all Adult Care Home and employee policies
  • Participate in job-related continuing education
  • Notify administration of residents' irregular eating habits and special needs
