The Cook position at Discovery Mood and Anxiety Program is a vital role within the Dietary Services Department. This full-time position works Sunday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm onsite in Irving, TX, with a pay range of $24 to $28 per hour. The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving food in compliance with federal, state, and local health standards as well as the organization’s policies and procedures. Collaborating closely with the Director of Dietary Services and Clinical Nutritionist, the Cook ensures that food is prepared according to planned menus, standardized recipes, and therapeutic diet requirements. Attention to detail is critical in this role to meet the specialized dietary needs of patients, including the preparation of special diet trays according to diet orders supplied by the nursing department. The Cook also assists in maintaining food safety protocols like HACCP procedures, proper food storage, and kitchen hygiene. Effective administration and recordkeeping, including completing necessary forms and reports, are essential duties to support the overall quality and efficiency of food service operations. This position not only involves meal preparation but also includes tasks such as overseeing dishwashing, garbage removal, and ensuring appropriate serving equipment and cutlery are provided with meals and snacks. The Cook plays a collaborative role by consulting with the Director of Dietary Services to review and address patient diet plans, ensuring nutritional needs are met and accommodated when patients refuse certain foods. This role demands a professional with at least one year of experience in cooking or a similar capacity and a high school diploma or equivalent educational background. Job Duties
- review menus prior to preparation of food
- inspect special diet trays to assure that the correct diet is served to each patient
- perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms and reports and submit to the Director of Dietary Services
- work with the facility's clinical nutritionist and dietitian as necessary and implement recommended changes as required
- ensure that all food procedures are followed in accordance with established policies and procedures
- assist in establishing a food service production line to assure that meals are prepared on time
- process diet changes and new diets as received from the Nursing Department
- prepare meals in accordance with planned menus
- prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance
- serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures
- prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus
- prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders
- ensure that all meals are correctly prepared and ready to be served at designated meal times
- oversee and help with dishwashing and daily garbage removal
- oversee and adhere to all kitchen, dining room and site HACCP procedures
- ensure that receipt of all foods are stored properly and rotated
- prepare and serve patients nutritional snacks
- assure that appropriate cutlery and equipment are provided with each meal and/or snack
- assist the Director of Dietary Services in reviewing treatment plans to assure that a patient's dietary needs are being met
- prepare and serve substitute foods to patients who refuse foods served
