Job Description
The hiring establishment is a retirement housing community dedicated to providing exceptional care, services, and activities tailored to the needs and preferences of elderly residents. This community prides itself on delivering a holistic and compassionate approach to senior living, ensuring each resident experiences a comfortable, independent lifestyle in a supportive environment. The Dining Services Department plays a crucial role in this mission by offering high-quality meal preparation and service that meets the unique nutritional and social needs of every resident. The establishment emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, and personalized care, making it a rewarding place to work for those passionate about serving the elderly population. The employment type is full-time, with a starting pay of $16.00 per hour, reflecting the value placed on skilled, dedicated culinary professionals who contribute directly to the well-being of residents.
The role of Cook within the Dining Services Department is a vital position responsible for the delivery of food services that are both nutritious and appealing to the residents of this community. As a Cook, you will be expected to maintain excellent standards in food preparation, plate presentation, and timely service. This role demands proficiency in various cooking techniques, portion control, and adherence to dietary needs as outlined in individual resident care plans and the Resident’s Handbook. Beyond culinary expertise, the Cook is an integral member of the team who actively participates in resident orientation and care planning, ensuring that the dining experience supports the broader objectives of promoting independence, identity, and quality of life for each senior resident.
In addition to culinary duties, the Cook will engage regularly with residents to foster a warm and welcoming atmosphere, learning about their preferences and needs to customize food services accordingly. The role involves meticulous attention to cleanliness, food safety, and compliance with state and local health regulations. Working under the guidance of the Dining Services Director, the Cook will manage inventory efficiently, minimize waste, and contribute to cost-conscious operations. The position requires physical stamina to handle lifting, standing, and other physical tasks necessary in a busy kitchen environment.
This role is not only about preparing meals but also about being an active participant in the residents’ lives, encouraging social interaction and participation in community activities during meal times. The Cook’s proactive communication with other team members ensures a coordinated approach to resident care, enhancing the overall living experience within the community. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors while developing your culinary skills in a residential care setting. Working in-person, you will be part of a dedicated team that values respect, professionalism, and continuous learning.
