Job Description

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is a leading healthcare organization committed to delivering high-quality care to diverse communities. CHA comprises local hospitals and care centers that serve a vibrant population, emphasizing equity and excellence in health services. The organization is driven by a passionate mission to improve public health while breaking down barriers to access. CHA proudly advocates for underserved populations and continuously engages in research initiatives dedicated to enhancing healthcare outcomes. With a robust strategic plan, CHA prioritizes competitive salaries, benefits, and professional development opportunities, fostering long-term, rewarding careers for its team members. The organization is also steadfast in upholding principles of equal employment opportunity, maintaining a discrimination-free workplace that respects all individuals regardless of race, religion, gender, age, or any protected characteristic. Employees at CHA take pride in contributing to a meaningful mission that impacts neighbors, friends, and families every day.

The Cook at Cambridge Health Alliance plays a vital role in the Food Service department, which is essential to ensuring patient and colleague satisfaction through quality meal delivery. Positioned on a per diem on-call basis, this role offers a flexible schedule with day and night shifts available at the CHA Somerville Campus. Work hours include early morning to mid-afternoon and mid-afternoon to evening shifts, tailored to meet the demanding needs of the healthcare environment. The Cook is responsible for planning and executing large-scale quantity cooking, preparing a wide range of dishes including meats, vegetables, fish, hot and cold salads, soups, sauces, gravies, eggs, desserts, and breads using various cooking methods. Beyond cooking, the position includes supervising and performing less complex food preparation duties such as cleaning and sanitizing workstations, food preparation equipment, and storage areas. The Cook ensures that meals are prepared according to standardized recipes and maintains high standards of food safety and sanitation.

This role supports CHA's 'Expressly for You' program, where dedicated Food Service members deliver personalized dining care to patients, thus enhancing the overall patient stay. The position requires previous experience in food service, preferably with two years in quantity food production, and the ability to read, write, and speak English effectively. Knowledge and training in the usage of food production equipment are also critical. The Cook contributes directly to the hospital’s mission of delivering compassionate, patient-centered care by offering wholesome, appealing meals that meet diverse dietary needs. Joining CHA means becoming part of a dynamic team that values collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement in healthcare food services, supporting both patient recovery and staff engagement. This opportunity is well-suited for individuals passionate about food service in a healthcare setting and dedicated to making a difference through quality and care.
