The role of Cook at Eastcastle Place is a crucial position within their Culinary Services team. This full-time non-exempt role works 40 hours per week, primarily from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm, including participation in every other weekend rotation. The hourly wage is $19.00 with a sign-on bonus of $1,000, reflecting the importance placed on attracting skilled culinary professionals. The Cook is typically the first culinary staff member to arrive on site each morning, tasked with setting the kitchen’s tone and preparing high-quality meals – specifically breakfast and lunch – that adhere to rigorous culinary and therapeutic diet standards. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three years cooking experience in a hotel, restaurant, club or healthcare setting
- Ability to understand measurements and conversions
- Ability to plan and organize work
- Ability to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
- Some knowledge of nutrition
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff
- Ability to use sound judgement and work well under pressure
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Culinary school experience preferred
- A minimum of three years experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or healthcare environment preferred
- Ability to understand measurements and conversions
- Ability to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
- Some knowledge of nutrition
- Possesses ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff
- Uses sound judgement, works well under pressure, and possesses strong organizational skills
Job Duties
- Prepares all soups, stocks, sauces
- boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes
- Prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes
- Prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders
- Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved
- Ensures that food portions and food presentations meet Eastcastle Place standards
- Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and ensures that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production
- Assists other cooks to ensure that meal service is completed in a timely manner
- Efficiently resolves problems with resident orders
- Completes all necessary logs and quality checklists as specified as well as cleaning and sterilizing food preparation areas
- Attains proficiency and ability to fill in for steward as needed
- Attains basic proficiency and ability to fill in for line cook as needed
