The position available is for a full-time Cook at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center under Sodexo’s operations. As a Cook, you will be an essential part of the food preparation team responsible for accurately preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a diverse array of hot and cold dishes suitable for all meal periods and special events within the hospital. This role requires working efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while adhering to Sodexo’s strict culinary standards for food quality, presentation, and consistency. Attention to detail and food safety are paramount in this role to ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate food handling regulations.
The Cook position supports Sodexo’s mission of delivering an exceptional dining experience by preparing high-quality meals that meet customer expectations and fostering teamwork within the kitchen staff. Responsibilities include following standardized recipes, maintaining cleanliness and organization within cooking stations, tasting and adjusting flavors, and carefully managing food inventory and production planning. Physical aspects of the job include prolonged standing and mobility with occasional heavy lifting, which requires stamina and physical dexterity.
The role is well-suited for candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent, who have some previous experience or knowledge in food preparation and kitchen equipment operation. The ability to follow recipes independently is essential. Job Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- 0 to 2 years of related work experience
- Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Good working knowledge of food preparation
- Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment
- Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised

Job Duties
- Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations
- Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs
- Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
- Maintain clean and organized workstation throughout shifts
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation protocols
- Attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on business necessities and client requirements
