The role of a Cook for Patient Services at Banner University Medical Center Tucson is a vital position within the Culinary & Nutrition department, categorized under Facilities, Environmental Services, and Culinary. This full-time evening shift position (typically 2 pm to 10:30 pm) offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-production environment within a healthcare setting. The role involves preparing a diverse range of hot and cold food items using standardized recipes, adhering to production forecasts and catering requests to meet patient and staff needs promptly and efficiently. In addition to cooking duties, cooks may work in retail cafe grill areas or prepare breakfast items, reflecting the variety and dynamic nature of the work. The position requires attention to maintaining food safety and quality standards by checking and logging food and equipment temperatures, managing food inventories, and adhering to sanitation protocols.

  • required food handler's card within 30 days of hire for Banner Staffing Services members except in Tucson and Colorado
  • compliance with Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card for certain hospital locations

Job Qualifications

  • One or more years of work experience in production cooking
  • ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures
  • ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions
  • good interpersonal skills
  • ability to perform simple math calculations
  • ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests
  • high school diploma or GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred
  • additional related education and/or experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook hot and cold food items using standardized recipes and production forecasts
  • work in retail cafe grill area and cook breakfast items as assigned
  • record over production and run outs
  • write directions and calculate production quantities
  • check and log food and equipment temperatures and report problems
  • maintain par levels of food and supplies, order and restock items, rotate food stocks, and check freshness dates
  • keep assigned work areas clean and orderly
  • assist other kitchen and dietary staff as needed
  • may oversee scheduled shift for efficiency
  • follow established procedures, recipes, and work routines under general supervision
