Located at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, Sodexo is currently seeking dedicated Cooks to join its culinary team. This position offers both full-time and part-time employment opportunities with a fixed pay rate of $19.00 per hour. Work shifts primarily include afternoon and evening hours with varying schedules, including some weekends and holidays, providing flexibility to accommodate employees' personal commitments. As a Cook at Sodexo, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional dining experiences by preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a wide variety of hot and cold food items that meet Sodexo's culinary standards for quality, consistency, and presentation. Your responsibilities will require adherence to food safety and sanitation regulations, working efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized workstation. The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift moderate weights, essential for meeting the fast-paced demands of the kitchen environment.

This position will have you working closely with a team to ensure that all meal periods and special events are supported by timely and accurate food preparation. You will follow recipes and food-handling procedures, contribute to inventory planning and requisitioning, and be prepared for variable duties that adapt to the specific needs of the client account. Your ability to follow both written and verbal instructions while maintaining high-quality output is essential.

Job Requirements

  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment
  • Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time, throughout the entire duration of a shift, which may exceed 8 hours
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions
  • Attends work and shows for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Other duties may be assigned and can differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements
