The Cook position based at The Buddy Holly Hall in Lubbock, TX, within the Food & Beverage Department, offers a part-time, hourly role reporting to the Executive/Sous Chef. This job entails preparing both hot and cold food items following standardized recipes, ensuring the highest quality service for guests and coworkers. The role requires strict adherence to proper food handling techniques including storage, temperature control, and sanitation to maintain safety and reduce food waste. Responsibilities include managing opening and closing inventory counts, preparing the station according to expected service needs, and efficiently operating kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, and knives to fulfill precise customer orders made during events. The position demands flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as it is event-based.
This role involves maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation throughout the shift and thoroughly cleaning at shift-end to ensure readiness for subsequent shifts. The cook must practice first-in, first-out (FIFO) product rotation techniques, correctly label, wrap, and date all food items, and request timely inventory replenishments to guarantee continuous guest service. Physical requirements include regular movement around the facility, standing for long periods during events, lifting up to 50 pounds, and operating under moderate noise conditions. The ability to adapt to frequent changes and unexpected situations in a fast-paced environment is essential. Previous culinary experience or completion of a one-year culinary certificate is preferred, along with food safety compliance and strong attention to detail. Job Duties
- Prepares hot and cold food to order as per standardized recipes
- provides highest quality service to guests and co-workers at all times
- follows proper food handling techniques and coordinates the use of time, material, and equipment to avoid waste and unnecessary expense
- assists with opening and closing inventory counts
- sets station up prior to opening to ensure readiness based on historical par levels
- stores and properly handles raw and cooked foods and non-food supplies
- follows temperature danger zone guidelines to ensure food safety
- maintains a sanitizer bucket at proper dilution at all times
- ensures all products are properly wrapped, labeled, and dated
- practices FIFO for all products to ensure proper rotation
- operates equipment according to use and safety instructions
- cooks exact number of items ordered by each customer
- distributes food to concession cashier/attendant
- requests inventory refills as needed to ensure adequate supply
- keeps work area clean, organized, and sanitary
- cleans and organizes workstation at end of shift to comply with safety guidelines
- works flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
