This particular opportunity is for the position of Cook at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, working part-time with shifts during morning, afternoon, and evening hours. The role offers a competitive pay range of $22.00 to $26.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of quality culinary skills and food safety knowledge in delivering exceptional dining experiences within a healthcare setting. As a Cook at Sodexo, you will play a key role in preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items aligned with Sodexo’s culinary standards for quality, presentation, and consistency. The position requires working efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation.

The Cook I position supports Sodexo’s commitment to outstanding food service by ensuring that all dishes meet regulatory requirements and nutritional standards, contributing to the overall health and well-being of hospital patients, staff, and visitors. The role involves following recipes, tasting and seasoning dishes, estimating food requirements, and maintaining accurate records. Physical aspects of the job include walking and standing for extended periods, lifting and moving food supplies, and performing repetitive motions essential to kitchen operations. The position also requires punctuality, reliability, and the ability to adapt to variable shifts to meet business and client needs.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • knowledge of basic operation of kitchen equipment and food handling procedures preferred
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • ability to perform repetitive motions
  • ability to walk or stand for extended periods up to 8 hours
  • ability to lift up to 35 pounds frequently and occasionally 50 pounds
  • punctuality and regular attendance
  • ability to reach, bend, stoop, push or pull
  • willingness to work varied shifts mornings, afternoons and evenings

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

  • knowledge of kitchen equipment operation
  • good working knowledge of food preparation

  • familiarity with food handling procedures
  • ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with federal, state and corporate standards
  • follow recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables and desserts
  • taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production and keep records
  • maintain a clean and organized workstation
  • ensure food safety and sanitation standards are upheld
  • assist with kitchen teamwork and contribute to overall dining experience quality
  • perform other duties as assigned based on business needs and client requirements
