Job Description
Las Palmas Medical Center is a full-service hospital located in El Paso, boasting over 300 beds and serving as a critical healthcare hub for the region. As part of Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, which aligns itself with HCA Healthcare—one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers—this facility benefits from the resources, expertise, and ethical standards upheld by a globally recognized organization. HCA Healthcare has been celebrated multiple times by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies and has invested billions in charitable care and community support. Las Palmas Medical Center is notably home to the region's only kidney transplant center. Additionally, it provides comprehensive services including emergency care with a Level III trauma center, cardiac care, specialized women’s and pediatric services including a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), cancer care, and more.
Joining Las Palmas Medical Center as a Cook presents an exciting career opportunity within the healthcare and foodservice industry. This full-time role encompasses responsibility for planning, preparing, and cooking a variety of foods for patients, staff, visitors, and special events held within the facility. Working in a healthcare environment demands a strong commitment to food safety, sanitation, and infection control, all of which align closely with the high standards of Las Palmas Medical Center and HCA Healthcare. As a Cook, your core duties include preparing patient-specific meals, handling cafeteria service, and facilitating catering functions that contribute to the overall patient and visitor experience.
The position requires close attention to detail such as reviewing production sheets, mixing ingredients following standardized recipes, and cooking foods through methods like baking, roasting, and steaming. You will be responsible for producing sauces, soups, stews, and casseroles, ensuring that meals meet quality expectations by monitoring taste and appearance. Adherence to local health regulations and hospital standards is mandatory, focusing on hygiene and preventing cross contamination. You will also manage the scheduling of food preparation activities to ensure meals are delivered punctually for various services including tray lines and catered events.
Las Palmas Medical Center invests heavily in the professional growth and well-being of its employees, offering a comprehensive benefit package that supports career development, health, financial wellness, and overall quality of life. Perks include extensive medical, dental, vision insurance, and behavioral health support, paid time off, disability coverage, retirement savings plans with company match, and educational assistance. These offerings foster a positive and supportive work environment where employees can thrive.
This role is ideal for individuals with experience in healthcare or retail food service cooking who are food safety certified or willing to obtain relevant permits shortly after hire. The Cook position not only involves food preparation responsibilities but also offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to patient care and satisfaction. If you seek a job where you can combine culinary skills with a commitment to healthcare excellence, this opportunity at Las Palmas Medical Center is highly rewarding. We encourage interested candidates to apply promptly, as highly qualified applicants will be contacted for interviews. The employer values diversity and inclusion, ensuring a workplace free from discrimination and welcoming applicants from all backgrounds.
