Job Requirements

  • high school graduate or GED equivalent
  • one year of food production experience preferred
  • or three years of experience in healthcare or retail food service cooking preferred
  • current ServSafe Food Handler permit, Health Department Food Handler card or state Food Safety permit within seven days of hire

Job Duties

  • review production sheets to determine types and quantities of food to be prepared
  • prepare and cook food items for patients, staff, visitors, and special functions following standardized recipes
  • mix ingredients according to recipes
  • bake, roast, and steam meats, fish, and other foods
  • make sauces, soups, stews, and casseroles
  • test the food being cooked by tasting, smelling, and piercing to ensure proper cooking
  • follow standardized recipes to ensure consistent quality
  • follow local health and hospital standards for food production, service, and storage
  • maintain a clean cooking area and observe sanitation and infection control guidelines to prevent cross contamination
  • plan cooking schedule to ensure food readiness for tray lines, cafeteria service, and catered events
  • review menus and forecast production needs weekly
