Job Description

The Homestead at Rochester is a community-focused establishment operating under Volunteers of America National Services, which is the Housing and Healthcare affiliate of the Volunteers of America parent organization. This affiliation underscores the Homestead's commitment to providing quality living and support services to its residents, emphasizing compassion, wellness, and community engagement. Located in Rochester, the Homestead is dedicated to serving seniors and other community members in need of supportive housing and healthcare services, ensuring that residents enjoy a dignified and comfortable lifestyle. The Homestead fosters an inclusive, respectful, and positive environment for both residents and staff, reinforcing the organization’s mission to uplift those they serve through dedicated care and resources.

We are currently seeking a Full-Time Cook to join our outstanding team. This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $23.00 to $25.00 depending on experience, with an established schedule from Monday through Friday totaling 40 hours per week, and occasional weekend shifts. At the Homestead, the role of the cook is critical in maintaining the high hospitality and food service standards our residents expect and deserve. The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing meals that meet or exceed quality, taste, and nutritional standards while also accommodating special dietary needs outlined by the menus. This role requires a professional who is adept at managing food production efficiently and effectively, even stepping up to oversee kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef.

In addition to a great work environment, the position provides numerous benefits including generous "refer a friend" bonuses, access to a 403(b) Retirement Plan, career scholarships, and opportunities for continuing education and leadership training. You will also have comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage, as well as paid time off encompassing vacation, holidays, and sick days. One unique benefit offered is the NetSpend program, which allows employees to access up to 50% of their earned wages before payday, helping to manage financial needs more flexibly. The Homestead values its employees and invests in their growth and well-being, creating a workplace where staff feel appreciated and motivated.

As a Full-Time Cook, you will be responsible for ensuring all food items are prepared on time using standardized recipes and that the kitchen operates smoothly during meal production hours. You will assist with training new kitchen staff, adhere strictly to food safety standards, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene at all times. Working in this role means interacting courteously with guests, residents, and staff, demonstrating a genuine interest in serving a senior population with empathy and professionalism. The kitchen environment can be physically demanding, involving exposure to hot and cold temperatures, strong odors, and occasional interaction with health-sensitive residents. However, it is also a fulfilling role where your contribution directly enhances the daily living experience of many individuals. The Homestead at Rochester invites motivated culinary professionals to join our team and contribute their skills to our compassionate community.
