The culinary staff at Parkland is integral to the hospital's mission of supporting health and well-being through quality food services. Our kitchen team adheres to the highest standards of food safety and nutrition while accommodating a variety of dietary needs and preferences.

The cook is responsible for preparing 'made to order' entrees on café serving lines, ensuring fresh and appealing meal options. Working closely with kitchen staff and management, this role demands proficiency in culinary techniques, a thorough understanding of food safety standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Successful cooks possess strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the capacity to prepare food items that meet the nutritional and taste requirements necessary for patient care and guest satisfaction.
This position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of cooking experience or equivalent culinary education. The role mandates completion of an ANSI or Texas Department of State Health Services accredited food handler training certificate within 60 days of employment. Key skills include familiarity with recipe procedures, ingredient measurements, time management for food preparation, and the use and maintenance of institutional kitchen equipment such as ovens, steamers, grills, fryers, slicers, and braising pans. The cook will follow established production guides and recipes while managing kitchen workflow and ensuring safe, sanitary food handling practices. They will also provide direction to assistant cooks and act as relief personnel when needed to support kitchen operations.
Overall, this position plays a critical role in maintaining Parkland's commitment to delivering quality food services in a healthcare setting. The cook contributes directly to patient satisfaction and nutrition, supports cafeteria and event catering services, and upholds stringent safety and sanitation standards for a seamless and effective kitchen operation. This role also involves continuous improvement efforts by identifying new ways to enhance work processes, customer satisfaction, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
