The position of Cook at California Fish Grill plays a vital role in supporting the restaurant's mission to provide delicious, high-quality food while maintaining exceptional safety and cleanliness standards. This hourly, non-exempt role involves preparing and/or directing the preparation of food according to established production procedures, including ensuring compliance with sanitation, personal hygiene, and health standards. Working closely with the Restaurant General Manager and Training General Manager, the cook is responsible for minimizing loss and waste by utilizing supplies and equipment appropriately. The role includes a variety of tasks such as overseeing food production to ensure freshness and quality, setting steam tables, maintaining accurate production records, and completing food temperature checks to guarantee food safety.
Beyond food preparation, this job requires an individual who is attentive to detail, capable of maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the work area, and able to communicate effectively with team members and guests alike. The cook must also support and actively participate in the restaurant's safety procedures, quality assurance initiatives, and uphold company policies including confidentiality, workplace safety, and harassment-free environment. Essential skills include moderate reading and writing ability, proficiency in interpersonal communication, physical dexterity, and the capability to safely handle restaurant equipment and tasks. - ensures availability of supplies and food or approved substitutions in adequate time for preparation
- sets steam table
- complies with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards
- stores food properly and safely, marking date and item
- reports necessary equipment repair and maintenance to supervisor
- plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food is preserved
- apportions food for serving
- maintains daily production records
- keeps work area neat and clean at all times including dishwashing
- cleans and maintains equipment used in food preparation
- completes food temperature checks before service
- completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
