Job Description
Allina Health is a prominent healthcare organization committed to delivering high-quality medical services and compassionate care to patients across multiple communities. Recognized for its patient-centered approach, Allina Health operates a comprehensive network of hospitals, clinics, and specialty care services throughout the United States. The organization values teamwork, innovation, and community involvement, striving to provide a supportive environment for both patients and staff. Allina Health's dedication extends beyond healthcare; they invest in employee well-being, professional development, and inclusive workplace culture, ensuring their team members thrive professionally and personally.
The role of a Cook within Allina Health's Food Services Department is pivotal in supporting the institution's mission by preparing nutritious and appetizing meals for patients, staff, and guests. This position operates under a 0.5 full-time equivalent (FTE) schedule, which means working 20 hours per week, typically in day or evening shifts, with a rotation every other weekend. The Cook position is covered under the SEIU-4-United Service Workers-SUH union contract. The pay range for this opportunity is $22.49 to $29.25 per hour, with the starting wage determined by various factors including experience, education, and applicable union agreements. Additional shift and weekend differentials may also enhance the hourly rate.
In this role, the Cook will be responsible for preparing food in a timely, appealing, and appetizing manner, strictly adhering to standardized recipes and proper cooking methods. This includes ensuring adequate preparation volumes that align with patient needs and cafeteria activity. The Cook must be knowledgeable about special diets and collaborate with dietitians when necessary to accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences. Food safety is a top priority, requiring the use of appropriate cooking, cooling, and reheating methods alongside regular temperature monitoring. Cooks must be diligent about labeling, dating, covering, and storing food properly while utilizing effective sanitizing techniques for both food and equipment.
Beyond food preparation, the Cook may assist with maintaining the work station, managing grocery orders and inventory, operating the cash register, contributing to menu development, and ensuring adequate food stock levels to meet demand. The position demands physical capability to handle medium work activities, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. Attention to detail, commitment to food safety, and teamwork are critical attributes for success in this role.
Working at Allina Health provides access to a broad range of valuable benefits designed to support employees' total well-being—mind, body, spirit, and community. Employees benefit from comprehensive medical and dental coverage, generous paid time off, retirement savings plans, life insurance, and disability benefits. Additional perks include paid caregiver leave, voluntary benefits such as vision and legal coverage, tuition reimbursement or continuing education options, and student loan support programs. The organization also encourages community involvement through employee resource groups and volunteer activities, fostering an inclusive and engaging workplace culture where everyone is better together.
