Job Description
W Austin is a vibrant and contemporary hotel located in the heart of Austin, Texas, renowned for its innovative design, lively atmosphere, and exceptional guest experiences. As part of the W Hotels brand under Marriott International, W Austin offers luxury accommodations and a dynamic environment that combines modern style with local culture. Positioned strategically near popular city attractions, the hotel attracts business travelers, tourists, and event attendees looking for a unique and upscale stay. This establishment prides itself on outstanding food and beverage services, contributing to the city's thriving culinary scene with its restaurants and bars that emphasize quality, creativity, and guest satisfaction.
The role advertised is a full-time, non-management position within the Food and Beverage & Culinary category at W Austin. The position is based on-site at the hotel's prime location at 200 Lavaca Street, Austin, Texas. The hourly wage is competitively set at $23.35, reflecting the value the hotel places on skilled culinary staff. This job requires hands-on involvement in preparing and cooking food items, maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for various kitchen operations, including portioning ingredients, chopping, cooking, and plating dishes according to established recipes and company guidelines. The work environment involves operating a variety of kitchen appliances such as ovens, grills, stoves, fryers, and microwaves while ensuring that all food items meet the hotel's quality benchmarks and health regulations.
In addition to food preparation, this role demands conscientious attention to the cleanliness of the kitchen area, including washing and disinfecting utensils, workstations, and equipment. The employee is expected to monitor and maintain appropriate temperatures for appliances and food items to guarantee safety and freshness. Furthermore, this position involves adherence to company policies, particularly regarding safety protocols and professional conduct. The employee will be engaged in regular safety training and certification processes to uphold these standards.
A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, work collaboratively within a team, and support the collective goals of the culinary department. Physical stamina is essential to this position, as it requires standing or moving for extended periods and handling physical tasks such as lifting objects up to 25 pounds. The role also calls for flexibility, with the performance of additional reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.
Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of relevant culinary experience. Although supervisory experience is not required, the ability to follow instructions, maintain confidentiality, and contribute positively to a fast-paced, high-energy kitchen environment is critical. This job offers an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals seeking to advance their skills within a prestigious hotel brand in a vibrant city.
